In this picture, it shows a 18 year old white mother and her child in the depression. They live in a tent in what looks like the outside of a broken down city or town. It is mid-day and terrible living conditions. What made me catch sight of this picture was the reaction on their faces. They look unhappy and seriously depressed. This black and white picture looks fairly new and not very worn down like the other pictures are. When i first saw this picture, i was very upset right away. It made me want to go there and ask questions right away about how they got into that position and how old is the baby to see if she was in that tent even before the baby?
This is a picture of a old general store taken by Walker Evans, 1903-1975. As you can see, no people are around this store because most people didn't have money and that is why many stores went out of business like this one. The lighting is strong in the picture and the picture is also very dim and old. My response to this photo is amazed that not one person is in that store because so many people didn't have a job and money. Two questions I would ask is how long has it been this deserted and how long has the store been out of business?
This picture is of a negro family at their house in the fields. The background is a large field covering miles and miles of territory and them a forest looking area after the open space. This is a family of eight living in a run down shake of a house. It is daytime and the family is lounging around the porch area, and no one is working in the field. It looks like the farm business is not working out at all or not earning any money for them because the field looks dried up and old. Two questions I would ask this family is what happened to their farm and why aren't they in the city trying to look for jobs?
